When a member of a homeschooling network group asked me that question today, without giving it much thought I replied, “actually, I am both”.

I am the founder of Renaissance Christian School of Excellence. I use to teach in the public school system. However, I started to see that my oldest was getting lost and frustrated in school. With so much going on in his classes large enrollment, behavior issues, etc., the spark for learning was beginning to grow dim. So I decided to pull him out of the public school system and educate him at home. When my daughter started Kindergarten I decided to teach her at home also.

Then I started to think that it would be wonderful if I could combine the two – “private education” and home education. After some planning and much praying, Renaissance Chrsitian School of Excellence was started. RCSE uses several homeschool texts and parent friendly lesson plans thus, allowing parents to become co-teachers and develop a true parent-teacher partnership. By limiting the our teams (multi-age classes) to ten (10) students we are able to provide individual learning plans for each student enrolled at RCSE. The low enrollment, parent-teacher partnership, and teams provide a nuturing family environment making RCSE a cottage academy. By participating in many homeschooling events and offering resources to many homeschooling families such as activities, electives and support for core subjects RCSE is also a homeschool support network. For families that would like to educate their children at home but follow a predesigned curriculum with full teacher support, RCSE is a virtual academy.

I actually enjoy being a part of Renaissance Christian School of Excellence because I am able to still participate fully in my children’s educational process by educating them at home and yet I don’t have to answer to the state since RCSE serves as an umbrella program- thus providing me the best of both worlds. So when you ask if I am a homeschooler or an employee of Renaissance Christian – I have to say that I am both

The end of year is here. Our scheduled end of year event will be held on the school grounds. We will have a fun day scheduled with lots of food, fun and games. Festivities will be at 8:30. Don’t forget to bring blankets and lawn chairs.

There are many fun things to do in the summer. Sitting outside under a tree, with a good book is especially fun to do in the summer. In the car, on the plane, on a train, in a house, with a mouse, at the park, in the dark (with a flashlight of course). Remember to be on a look out for your summer reading lists.

Things that are not taken personally are easy to ignore. If something doesn’t relate to us (or that is how we feel) it doesn’t matter that much. It is that to which we relate to on a personal level we will devote ourselves to and expend the greatest energy and time. Such personally means something to us and therefore sustains our GENUINE INTEREST. Where there is this kind of attachment we will give whatever is needed to keep things right.

In Paul’s first letter to the church at Thessalonica, he made reference to his very personal connection with these believers. We read. . .

“(7) But we were gentle among you, like a nursing mother taking care of her own children. (8) So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were READY TO SHARE with you NOT ONLY THE GOSPEL of God BUT ALSO OUR OWN SELVES, because YOU HAD BECOME VERY DEAR TO US.” ( 1 Thessalonians 2:7-8 ESV)

Oh, what tender expressions Paul used to describe the relationship! Being gentle. Relating tenderly like a mother to her children. The affection. The dearness. The connection was personal! It was with this kind of PERSONAL INTEREST that Paul approached the ministry he had received from Christ. He was willing to “gladly spend and be spent” ( 2 Corinthians 12:15) on behalf of others. He had a GENUINE INTEREST in others and especially the salvation of their souls. Therefore, what took place in their lives affected him very personally. (note 2 Corinthians 11:28-29)

Like Paul — and Timothy ( Philippians 2:19-21) — let us grow in more fully making the LORD’S INTERESTS OUR INTERESTS. Let us seek to make His mission our mission, valuing others as He valued them and gave Himself up for us all. Unless we make this personal, we will not be the kind of servants the Lord desires. Sharing His personal compassion and interest in others will provide the basis for righteously relating to not only one another as Christians, but also to those who still need to be drawn to Him. May we Take the Will of the Lord personally so that our connections with others will be of the most benefit to them in relation to His Divine purposes. In this way GENUINE INTEREST will remain focused on things of eternal significance even in the day-to-day activities of this life.

Have a great day RECOGNIZING THE RIGHTEOUS ROLE THAT IS OURS!

Carl

“Heroes are not giant statues framed against a red sky. They are people who say: This is my community and it’s my responsibility to make it better.” ~ Tom McCall

Changes at Renaissance Christian for Next Year

I want to update you on some changes here at Renaissance Christian next year. We will be adding courses for grades 6 through 12. Since these courses will be classified as upper school courses, students in grade 6 can begin to take the necessary courses needed for graduation. This will make it possible for students to complete their course of study as early as 10th grade.

Based on the results from our school survey, changes have been made to class schedule. We have made it possible for students to attend class on campus Monday through Friday. This was done by adding more enrichment courses. For parents who prefer a traditional five day per week schedule, we have designed classes to meet this need.

Reflections and Thanks

It seems that it was just yesterday that we were getting ready to begin our second year hear at Renaissance Christian. Now we are fast approaching the end of the school year and the start of our summer break. I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for making this a great school year. I want to wish you all a safe and happy summer. I hope that the summer brings your family joy, adventure, relaxation and togetherness. Never underestimate the magic of reading a great book under the shade of a big tree.
